Root or wait for 2.1?

That's my question?

Are they even mutually exclusive?

I mean, If I root the phone, am I going to have to un-root it to get 2.1? And again, does that even matter?
 
Root now. And get a custom ROM. When 2.1 comes out, get a custom 2.1 ROM, because we'll have them within a few hours.

There's a distinct possibility that we could lose the ability to root a stock 2.1 phone.

So I suggest rooting now, and tweaking the hell out of your phone now. When 2.1 comes out, wait for a custom 2.1 ROM.

root it now.. waiting might be a HUGE mistake.. for those that don't think it's true... look at the Droid Eris... pretty much the same phone but we can root... they can't...

thanks...will do. Just nervous about bricking the phone.
 
Stay away from anything to do with GSM phones, and you'll be good. About the only way of bricking these phones that I've seen is to do an upgrade for a GSM phone.
