Root root question...

my friend had a razr... i told him about rooting my phones and he wants to root his phone. i've been doing research for him and i'm having trouble finding an easy way to root his phone (and un-root). he has android ver. 6.12.181.xt912 build 6.5.1-167_dhd-14_m3-8.

thank you all in advance for assistance...

I just rooted my friends razr maxx, and I have a question. Does he need to worry about accepting OTA updates?

If he want's to KEEP root he should DL OTA Root Keeper from the Play Store. Pretty self explanatory once he starts playing with it.

If he has frozen any apps, installed Safe/Bootstrap, etc, he'll need to revert all of that for OTA's to install.

are we sure this is true?

i first got my maxx about a week pre-ICS, so i didn't mess with it til i get that update so that i don't have to do it twice.

in the interim, i used moto's "hide" feature from the app drawer. when i got ICS, i rooted, installed TiBu, and went in to freeze the bloatware; but the programs i had hidden before the ICS update were already blue - ie frozen. which leads me to believe that moto's "hide" feature is essentially the same thing as TiBu's Freeze feature. which leads me to further believe that freezing apps does not disable one's ability to receive OTAs.

i have no proof of this, as i haven't gotten an OTA since then, but that's where i'm leaning - and the fact that it was across two versions of the OS leaves me feeling like it won't be a problem.

anyone with proof either way? i've been wondering about this for a while because i see a lot of people saying that frozen apps = no OTA.

Yes, positive they are different. The hide feature on GB is than the freeze feature on TiBu.
