Root Root Question?

Hi, I'm every new to rooting and all things I android. I just got my first android phone the HTC Evo V, and wanted to root it mainly because it's cool and to wifi tether it to my nexus 7. However I have a small question. Quite silly but I wanted to be sure. When I get the identifier token and head to HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader, under the supported devices which one do I choose? The guide doesn't seem to much that. It's seem that EVO 3D (Sprint)* would be the logical choice.
Also there seems to be plenty of roms available to choose from. Does any one have any suggestions on which one I should try first. I'm going to flash to the stock rom first as the guide suggest, but after that the sky's the limit.

People have been known to get an error using the sprint 3d option.

I used "all other supported devices"

+1 Yes this is the same option I have used and it works for everyone with no error.
