Root Root - ROM and more...

Hey everyone,

I'm sure the mod's and everyone else must be tired of getting the new kid to ask the same old questions but upon browsing and reading another posting someone pointed out a good fact which is it's pretty tricky trying to find a good place to start when your new!

I should start off and mention i don't know much of anything when it comes to installing custom ROM's or rooting but i'm willing to learn and listen so bear with me

I have a vibrant from T-Mobile although i live in Canada and i'm using Mobilicity, mainly i'd just like a faster phone overall, i owned an X10i before getting my Vibrant and i was expecting it to be much quicker and yet it doesn't feel like it is so i'm thinking i want to flash a good solid ROM onto the phone

So i'm asking:

- so for rooting what's the ways to go about it? i have z4 root, would that be enough or do i need to do more steps?

- I'm looking for speed and look in the ROM i'm going to flash, there seems like so many and it's tough to pick one from what i've read, so i'll ask what would everyone suggest? i don't need anything fancy, just something fast and a few extra goodies might be nice

- is there a good idiot proof guide to do all this? i don't consider myself too much of an idiot but i'd rather play safe

thank you in advance to anyone and everyone who replies or takes the time to comment!

I prefer SuperOneClick for rooting:
[APP]SuperOneClick v1.9.5 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App) - xda-developers

I'm personally using Bionix V by Team Whiskey. You can follow their guides here:
TeamWhiskey - Guides

For one click how does it work? i downloaded the zip so would i put that in my phone or do i need to unzip and then put it in my phone via USB?

I also got the Kernal and rom from the whiskey site, it sounds really awesome so i really want to try it out.

anything else i really need to know?

thanks for the links and reply!

Download to your comp and unzip it. There's a Youtube video right above the download link that shows you the whole process.
