Just a warning for you rooters out there with this device that freezing or deleting the Google Play Movies app on this device without unlocking the bootloader will result in a soft bricked phone. There also isn't much development for the ICS ROM, and unlocking the bootloader currently breaks Bluetooth. A big thanks to Dark One for this info.

This isn't entirely accurate, there is currently an eclipse ROM in development, CM9 (CM10?) and soon a bionx ROM, as well as several stock ROMs. There isn't as much going on as with others, but this phone is far from dead, just wanted to put that out there

Eclipse is stock based. But you do have a point. There may not be much development now but it's starting to pick up.

I'd venture a guess that it's coded to look for a drm app,which for us is LGDrm apk.

Given the permission and actions on the app, I'd say it's running on boot, looking for drm licenses for validation :

In any event, if you have the stock, locked bootloader, don't freeze this app.

Thanks for the heads up. I read there wasn't much development for the ICS ROM though, and it's good to see it's picking up.

I wonder what exactly is causing the soft brick from freezing the app that I might have bypassed. I haven't unlocked the bootloader either. I feel like a special case.

Have you rebooted? that's when you run into the issue.

I froze it too and didn't brick until several days later after multiple reboots. But eventually, the phone did brick itself upon a reboot.

Yea I have a feeling it's something Google coded into android to run a drm check and when it can verify it wigs out and bricks.

I removed it a long time ago and have rebooted several times. I had no problems with my phone but after seeing that I could have soft bricked my phone I just re-installed it. Now I'm afraid to reboot my phone; I can now that I re-installed the app right?

I'm not sure. I had it frozen on my phone for a while and it took quite a while to cause any problems. Then I couldn't connect to data and rebooted then saw the nice security error screen.

This sticky is rather outdated.

Bluetooth works fine-ish with an unlocked bootloader now, if you're running a newer rom. Ie: CM 10, AOKP41 or CM10.1
