Root Root with broken usb port

You guys have been so great in helping me root my D1, Droid X and HD2 but not I have a thunderbolt and the charger port is broken and im having to change the battery out once a day and Verizon said that it seems like user error so im waiting it out.

My question is I want to root it but all im finding is how to use Revolutionary and that requires it to be connected to the computer. Is there any way that I root and have s-off and install custom roms without having to use the micro usb port? Thank you guys again and I hope someone can help me.

I don't think so. With having to change to s-off I believe ADB is a must and without root I don't think you can use ADB wireless.

sorry,no way i can think of either. none of the one clicks from the past(z4root,universal androot) will work, and all other methods require either adb or software to be running on a PC.

if you got this under contract,id take it to a store so they can check it and verify that its not charging. they should get you a new one.

if you got it used, you could try fixing the port yourself,or take it somewhere to be repaired.

you could also call vzw and see if you can add the additional insurance(cost about $7 a month) then after a period of time make a claim. youd then be able to get a refurb for $90. just be aware that this technically is fraud and not something i am neccessarily reccomending.

its too bad that the "gfree" method being used for the desire Z and a handful of other gsm phones isnt working. :( its a really slick method of turning the secure flag off in the radio. basically all it involves is putting a file on the sd card and running a handful of commands either in an adb command window,or in a terminal window on the phone. it could easily be done without haVING THE phone plugged in

For some reason the USB port is no longer covered under warranty on vzw phones. They will say if its worn out it would be because the user improperly used it and it is an insurance matter

Wow,that's pretty shitty. Hope that never happens to me... My og Droid had a worn out, sloppy charge port,so I've already got an irrational fear of plugging and unplugging my phone. I carry an extra battery so i don't have to plug it in to make thru the day,lol

Yeah my ex-wife's og droid did that too, tried to get a warranty replacement and they said to file an insurance claim so I bought a spare battery and charger.

Thanks for the help guys, and yeah I figured that vzw would say something about user error. I do have the total equipment coverage so I could just make a claim, but I was trying not to spend any money on this phone yet in hopes that the Prime is really coming to Big Red. So I will just wait it out and just apply the stock -shudders- gingerbread update if and when it comes back out.

The OTA should come back out eventually.

And yeah it sucks they have that as a rule now paying $90 because the USB screwed up is not right IMO. Unless you got really drunk and jamed in the plug upside down or something I don't think it could be chalked up as user error.
