im about to flash the new gummy charge rom and i got to thinking i will have to wipe data/cache if i do this and i will lose all of my stuff. is there any way that i can root so i can have the ability the back up my stock set up and apps and then flash my rom? also the new gummy charged has multiple folder so how do i flash that?
Let me preface this by saying I've never done it, although it seems like it should work -
If you are still completely stock, you could possibly ODIN the CWM recovery and do a nandroid backup before rooting (this is mostly what I am not sure on - this may require rooting as I've never tried it unrooted before). Just make sure that you UNcheck Auto-Reboot in ODIN, and after ODIN has successfully flashed CWM (use the 4.0.1.4 version - I found it
here) disconnect the phone. Then instead of simply restarting the phone hold down vol up + home key + power - you will see the samsung logo, but continue holding all three until it goes away then comes back (I've seen other combinations mentioned, but this is what has worked for me). If done correctly, you should now boot into CWM recovery. In CWM, go to "backup and restore" (use the volume up/down to navigate), then select "Backup" (use the Power button to select).
The new gummy (version 2, whether FE or GBE) must be installed in CWM - the files flashed in CWM are of a .zip format, so while it looks like a bunch of folders, DON'T UNZIP IT! Leave it as is, and in CWM you select "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard", then select the Gummy zip file (which means this needs to be on your sd card). I hope this helps!
