Root Rooted Droid X in Charlotte,NC

I have a Droid X and would like to root it but it scares the hell out of me that I might screw it up. Anyone in the Charlotte area rooted their Droid X and would consider rooting mine if I met you at a convenient place for a burger in exchange? I really need Flash for a business demo and I am tired of waithing fro the OTA 2.2.

I'm in Charlotte and will be at the Panthers game on Sunday. But, even easier, just download Androot from this link over at droid-life...all you have to do is click one button to root it, its really that simple. How to: Root the DROID X Using Universal Androot | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Damn that seems easy enough. Will it unroot just as easy? If you are rooted will it stay rooted when Froyo comes along?

Yeah, there's 2 buttons in the application: "root" and "un-root". Click either to perform the action. Yeah I believe androot will now move the necessary files when you click "root" to keep root when you flash 2.2.

Going to have to give this a shot! Thanks!

Thanks. Do feel you have a better phone now that it is rooted?

Yeah, you can put applications on it that normally you couldn't run without a rooted phone. Also, you can put custom themes on it which are very nice. The black Revolution theme from Fabulous looks great with my Panthers wallpaper.

Imho its much better. Especially with Froyo. The battery lasts much longer, flash is nice, volume is louder etc.... This is my first android platform phone and im not very comp. savy. It was so easy to root via the link above, easy to flash 2.2 through rom manager.. Give it a shot, you wont be let down.

Oh and the program "setcpu" is going to give you so much better battery life. Check out steven's post http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/135909-setcpu-profiles.html , those settings work out great for me.

I live in Charlotte as well but I am still confused how to root my X after I already upgraded to Froyo. Based on what I read you can't use the simple rooting programs. An assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for Off Topic post. Just love mah Panthers :p

I just rooted my phone(which I got yesterday) thanks to this thread and ironically enough I live 20 minutes south of Charlotte in Lancaster, SC.

I rooted it, installed Setcpu, installed Wireless Tether...everything working great. I also noticed the memory is "more free" when the phone is rooted...staying close to 200M now instead of 90M. Phone is running super fast now and wireless tether couldn't have been any easier to setup.

My only concern...if verizon release the Froyo 2.2 update over the air...do we need to "un-root" our phones to get the update? (I am not installing the bootleg Froyo)

You won't have to un-root, but the update will likely un-root your phone and you'll have to re-root afterwards.
