Well first thing you can do is erase all bloatware.
This will help save a lot of battery.

Then maybe you can use a custom rom to improve everything but i dont find using custom roms safe.

What is bloatware and how do I remove it?

Bloatware is apps and programs that comes with the phone such as T-Mobile TV. You can remove it by downloading Titanium Backup. But be careful because you might delete something that you need.
