Root Rooted my phone but....

I love the phone but i cant stand everytime i talk to somebody the screen goes black and i cant get it back on without pulling the battery and rebooting it. The keypad lights up but thats it.... I went through the custom recovery in the sticky but i cant access that recovery menu for some reason. All it does when i hold the power/home/volume button combo it just boots the phone up reset. I heard a dirty flash of the original rom could fix the black screen issue. I also read that their was a program called lite or light something that could fix the issue.... I really love the phone but hate taking the battery out everytime i use it.

I rooted with z4root at first. Then I did a permanent root with it. My android version is 2.2, kernel 2.6.32.9 hardware 1.1. Had the problem before I rooted it, hoped to be able to fix it with a dirty flash but not being able to access the custom recovery memory i cant make a backup to flash the rom with the original 2.2 again.

Sounds like a screen guard problem. I remember hearing about certain screen protectors that messed with the proximity sensor.

As far as I can tell their is no screen guard on the phone. I tried to use my fingernail and see if their is a plastic cover of some sort but havent been able to peel anything off. I appreciate the help guys! This is my first android phone and the apps/games rock! Just pulling the battery everytime i make a call or get called sucks lol

Do me a favor- If the rom was the cm7 gingerbread rom then go to your display options under cyanogen and turn off the screen off and screen on animations then report back to me.

If it was the cm7 rom he wouldn't be making phone calls in the first place, or has that problem been fixed?

Key Combo does not work unless you have custom recovery installed. To install custom recovery you need to go through some steps.

Question: did it start happening only after you root the phone? If yes this should fix it.

1. Install USB drivers for the phone.
2. Install Android SDK Howto: Install the Android SDK - CyanogenMod Wiki here is the guide. Please read everything first. Then read again and follow the directions. Check that everything is according to the guide.
3 Install Custom Recovery. http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/256286-custom-recovery-ms690-optimus-m.html Read through the post it explains a few things on how to get $ and # in command line. If you are running Windows 7 you will need to get command prompt as well. Google "command prompt windows 7"
4. Install rom http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...ofinal-4-3-2011-its-not-over.html#post2492255 This is a stable overclockable rom. You might as well want to install some other roms.

Alright So I finally got the custom recovery working. SO much easier typing through a windows command prompt than that crappy phone keyboard lol. I made a backup of the nand + a back of nand+extra. Although I have no idea where it saved the backup? Im assuming if i need the backup i just boot the backup screen and it will find it and load it? Also Im looking toward flashing the rom you pointed me to, Im sure I will lose everything on the phone again. Im curious with this titanium backup how it works, I've backed all the stuff up one by one (didnt see a option to backup everything). It didnt ask me where to back it up too either, would i just reinstall titanium then do recovery once the phone is flashed? Thanks so much for the help guys. Also, I removed the phone case (plastic case that attached to the back and sides of phone and it doesnt freeze on the black screen during calls nowhere nears as much. Although it seems to do it for my wife everything lol. Also the phone DID have this problem prior to the root and/or touching anything.

go to custom recovery and do a nandroid back up (it will back up on sd card in nandroid folder) it basicly do the image of your whole rom, settings, apps etc. so in case u screw up on something you can recover everything in 5 min. before installing a custom rom you need to wipe all data first.

I dont use the latest zerorom. in my opinion its not as good as a previous version.

Thanks guy I figured it all out and flashed with the zero rom. Its like a new phone now! I dont have any more problems with the screen freezing black either the proximity sensor seems to work flawless!
