Root Rooted, New SD do I need to partition B4 New ROM

I have HTC Desire(CDMA) I'm rooted with clockworkMod 5.0.2.0 I have installed a new 16gb SD card (unpartitioned) I plan on partitioning this weekend (thinking VM gparted) do I have to partition before trying new ROMs? I know partition probably the way to go. Which leads me to this question what do I set my partitions at? I'm a scaredy cat and the whole partitioning thing as me worried because I started to partition with ROM Manager then read the post in here to absolutly NOT!! use ROM Manager and stopped the process ( I survived that one) now I'm gun shy about partitioning. I Know if I backup I can always go back if I dont like a ROM but still doesnt ease the nerves that much. Also what ROM would you guys recommend? (thinking of trying CM7) I know its all about personal preference and I sort of like the stock ROM (maybe not so much rom as sense feel) I have now seems good but I want to get rid of the US Cell bloatware and want more control over customization of MY phone. Well I'll stop rambling here and any help is appreciated. BTW I have read through the FAQ's here and they have been very helpful (you guys do a splendid job)but Nerves are still there. Thanks

Hi, if you wish to use a rom that supports a2sd+, then yes you'll have to partition the card. Use gparted and make the main partition first as fat32, followed by a partition of 1gb ext3.
