Root Rooted not flashed - Over Air updates?

Tekel

Lurker
I have rooted, but still run stock Sense UI on my CDMA desire. We are waiting with baited breath for 2.2 to FINALLY be released to us.

So my question. With this supposedly around the corner, Can I accept over the air updates when rooted? Or should I un-root update and re-root?

Thanks!

No, you can't accept OTA updates on rooted phones. Sometimes you can but shouldn't as it can break things.

Is there definitely an RUU to return to stock though? Hmmm I'm not sure.

That is what I thought. Supposedly the 2.2 update will be a RUU as well as over the air.

And there is no RUU for US Cellular HTC desire. Have read of some using the alltel or verizon RUU but no definitive answers on this.

Thanks for the quick response.

I've heard them using too. But if the software version is different, you still won't get the right ota.

If it is available as an ruu in the future, all the better.

Of course there may be custom 2.2 roms for cdma for you. If you can live without sense, there is even a cyanogen based cdma gingerbread Rom you can get right now
