Rooted phone apps

I was looking around the forums as I was thinking of rooting my G1, but while I saw a few things about a wifi tether and one or two other things I noticed there was not an updated definitive list of apps or how-to's with regards of what can be done, just a few post saying a few things.

I did try searching but I could not find one so if there is (or ifthi is in thewrong section) I appologise

I'm pretty sure he's asking what exactly root can bring to the table that you don't already have. This is a (somewhat) definitive list.
