Root Rooted - "This app is incompatible with your Desire"

bails

Newbie
Hi guys, long time lurker, first time rooter! :)

I rooted my GSM Desire yesterday to CM7 using Revolutionary. Didn't really like it (wanted something nearer to stock but with apps2SD support*) so tried Leedroid. Much better.....except when i try to install certain apps that were running fine when the phone was stock I get the "This app is incompatible with your HTC Desire" message in the market. Whether I do it on the phone or try to do it on my PC and send the app to my phone.

Tasker is the main thing I want back as I found it very useful. Is there any way I can install it?

Do I need a different rom? Now that I'm rooted, would a stock HTC release of 2.3 let me do it while also having A2SD?

Stats:
UK GSM HTC Desire originally with 3 software
2.3.3 Android
2.1 Sense
Leedroid v3.3.3GB-R5
HBOOT 0.93.0001

*This is the main reason I rooted, constant "memory full" messages were driving me crazy!

Did you originally install Tasker from the market or from the developer directly? If the latter, just reinstall the apk you downloaded (and revalidate I assume). But not if you installed from the market, or you'll have to pay again.

I have no experience of LeeDroid, so can't say whether this is normal. Tasker certainly shows in the market for me (android 2.3.5).

Thanks for the reply.

I can't remember how I installed tasker originally.

I have downloaded the .apk from the Tasker website and tried to install by opening that from Astro. It recognised it as an install file, listed the permissions etc, I click 'Install', it thinks about it for a bit with an empty progress bar and then says "Installation Failed".

So I changed the .apk to .zip, turned the phone off, went into the bootloader and tried to install using the "install .zip from SD card" option. "Installation aborted"

You can't install just by zipping the apk - a flashable zip contains a script to tell the recovery how to install it (apologies if you did it properly!).

If it was just the market I'd suggest checking the "content filtering" setting in the market app. But failing to install from the apk is very odd. This is a clean install of LeeDroid (wipe before installing)? I guess it must be if you were running CM7 before, or it wouldn't even boot. Did you restore anything from Titanium?

Stock ROMs don't support a2sd+. There are slightly modified rooted stock ROMs (such as Teppic74's gingerbread) that you can add a2sd+ to. Or one of the earlier LeeDroids (with the Desire's version of Sense, rather than one of these ports from a later device) would be closer to stock. But a quick glance at the LeeDroid thread at XDA shows plenty of other people using Tasker with LeeDroid v3.3.3.

Edit: Stupid thought: you do have the option to install from non-market sources enabled? If it's a clean install that might not be set.

Ah, TBH I didn't expect installing through the bootloader to work, but thought it was worth a try.

And yep, I wiped the data before installing Leedroid.

I used Appmonster to backup my apps. So once I'd installed Leedroid I downloaded appmonster from the play store, and then recovered the apps I wanted from the backup I'd made on my SD card (partitioned with Gparted).

Plenty of other apps have installed no problem, but a few (Tasker is the only one I really care about) have shown the "This app is incompatible with your Desire" message in the market.

Maybe re-download Leedroid and reflash and install from new again?

Edit: Yes, the install from non-market sources is ticked, it had to be to allow appmonster to install apps.

May I suggest using Titanium Back up instead of app monster.
I've not used app monster but titanium backup is amazing.

You checked you have enough space, right?
It does sound really weird that you can't install it though.

98.15mb free on the internal memory.

I found one other mention of what sounds like the same problem: failed to install Tasker in CM7 - Tasker | Google Groups

Make sure you have GAPPS installed.

thank you. You are right. I installed part of Gapps, deleted CarHome &
google buzz.

Now Tasker runs well after adding CarHome and buzz.

But I've got Gapps installed (from a .zip, installed through the bootloader as per instructions on one of the many sites I've used)

Carhome is on the phone, Buzz isn't. I'm not sure if Buzz even exists any more, so I installed Google+ that instead and still no luck.

Before the root I was on Android 2.2.? and there was no Carhome, Buzz, or Google+. Just Google Search, Maps and Mail.

If it was me, I'd Nandroid back up, install another rom, maybe Teppics sense rom then try install Tasker again.

Ok, thanks, I'm not totally against doing this if I need to.

Does Teppic's rom include a2sd support? Or would I need to add it manuallly?

Thanks, I'll have a look at it tonight. I'll try Leedroid again and if that doesn't work I'll try Teppic's rom.

Cheers for your help guys.

Teppic's ROM has an add-on for a2sd (though since it supports init.d you could probably just install DarkTremor).

I ran Tasker on CM7 without Buzz (whatever that is) or Car Home (I trim my ROMs down, so remove stuff I'm not going to use). Worked fine. I think it needs Google Maps, don't know of other dependencies.

Well I wiped the phone again and reinstalled Leedroid and it seems to have fixed it :?

Got a little issue with Bookmarks to SD not importing but I can sort that one way or another.

Thanks again for the help.
