ok so I have a rooted phone. I want to know if a new update comes out and It gives me the option (or will it even ask) to update should I press yes or no?
Do I have to wait for someone to hack it and update manualy, will it just add the updates to my phone, or will it unroot my phone?

I believe since you are rooted ... you will not get the OTA notice ...
there will be a flurry of posts here regarding the latest JF build .... and once that has been done then you will update with the latest build of JF root build ...

Actully jf over at xda has an app in the market that will auto maticly check for jf updates and do it to the phone it self just like a normal update and there pretty good once an update comes out it will take them a day or so to hack it im currentley running version 5.0.1h htc magic rom witch is great

That is good to know ... Do you have the name of that app ... I assume it is not standard part of the Update ???

I have the same updater, You should be able to search for "JF Updater" and it will say JF updater for rooted phones...thats the one you are looking for. Its pretty decent...although on his website the developer has a disclaimer that says "this may brick your phone..." but I installed it before even seeing it and no problems at all.

Thanks ... I just downloaded the "JF Updater" from the Market ...

Looks like a nice tool ... can be used to Update or downgrade to previous build.. with alert and selectable auto checking intervals...

Also for ADP, G1 (UK), G1 US, or ALL,

Notification shows in the Notification Bar and selecting sarting the progam and lets you select the version you want ...

SWEEEEET !!!

Our team recently rooted all of our G1 phones. We weren't looked forward to all the manual updating. THIS IS GREAT NEWS!

PS We are working on new and improved instructions to root the G1. We will post soon!

You will get an OTA notice, but it won't install, even if you hit yes (at least this is what I've heard over at xda forums).
As for updating, it seems as though JF isn't active anymore :(
