Just a warning to everyone, please be carefull with root - one wrong step and you might end up with a bricked phone.
Read and understand what you're doing before you try - if not certain, don't do it.

Hi,
I'm new to Android and I keep seeing references to root. I'm not keen on messing around it with too much as I'm not too tekky but what are the advantages of doing it.
Thanks
Lee
Hi Lee,
Don't mean to sound nasty but I wouldn't really bother.
Only real advantage is to get rid of the apps sony ericsson fill your phone up with... you can also use certain root-only CPU and battery apps but I find they use up more memory and battery power.
I struggled to get mine rooted and I am usually quite good at these things.
Once I got it rooted (after about 4 hours following the instructions) I only got rid of timescape, roadsync and the default homescreen.
No need for any more root functions now on my mini...
There will not really be no need to root once they upgrade us to android 2.1, we will be able to put the apps on the memory card instead...
Not sure if this will count for the preloaded sony apps, but I hope so.
