Rooted ZVD updated in my pocket to ZVJ

QLily

Lurker
I have an LG Optimus S. I refused to do the update, my son has the same phone, I thought it was horrendously ugly. The green on black kills my eyes. The buttons and certain functions changed and I do not like it. He is having problems of his own with it saying the sd card is corrupted, yet they all work in my phone just fine.

I have been happy with ZVD. I had it rooted and removed the annoying sprint bloat. Last night it updated while I took the kids trick or treating. I am not sure how it did this on its own as it was in my pocket the whole time. My jeans may have been snug but they don't have my unlock pin. It now has ZVJ. Sprint is back and my root is gone. And I have a migraine and sugar wired kids. And an ugly phone.

I downloaded the downgrade but am scared to do it over the root and update.
I used Optiauto Sfx. I did the Xionia, and followed the instructions to the T in the sticky link. I got superuser and titanium back up installed.

I have searched for answers, maybe I am using the wrong search terms. I can't find any info on this.

I just want my phone back to ZVD, can I do the downgrade as it is and then reroot?

Thank you bunches, Q

I've read that you'll brick your phone if you install the stock Sprint ZVD downgrade unless you have a stock recovery. I'm not sure if that's true, but I wouldn't risk it. If you really want to return to stock ZVD (and then re-root) then you should use option B in Opti-Auto-SFX, which removes root and installs the stock recovery. You can see a screen shot of Opti-Auto-SFX's "option B" at the following link (though the instructions contained therein don't specifically cover your needs).

Personally, I think it would be best for you to install the ZVJ-based custom ROM known as "DanteROM". It's easy to do (just download to your SD card and install) and it's better than any of the ZVD-based custom ROMs. It's also way, way, way better than the stock ZVD or ZVJ ROMs (even if you run those stock ROMs rooted and gutted). DanteROM has all kinds of great features, like automatically switching between WiFi (when you're in range of a known source) and 3G (when you're not in WiFi range). You can customize the appearance greatly so it's hard for me to imagine that anyone could complain that it's ugly. You may find the following instructions informative. But if you're bent on ZVD, then I'd suggest installing a custom ZVD ROM like, "Reborn ROM", which is way, way, way better than stock/rooted ZVD.

If you install a custom ROM (like DanteROM or RebornROM), you'll never have to worry about your phone automatically updating to a new Sprint ROM.

If your son thinks that his SD card is corrupted but then the card works on your phone, then it's likely that his SD card reader hardware is going bad and there's nothing that he can do about it except to buy another Optimus S. We have 4 Optimus S's in my family and that happened with my daughter's phone. I tried a million things to fix it, but it had nothing to do with the ROM or software. It was purely an intermittent hardware failure that was only fixed by buying another phone (and painlessly restoring all of her old software & settings to it through a Nandroid restore).

Thank you for the reply. I got it back to ZVD!

I thought about doing custom roms, my only hang up is aesthetics and all those extra steps. I am not really all that good with this type of stuff. I usually find the shortest and sweetest route to what I need, and I need the sprint crap gone. That and I can't stand dark menu's and backgrounds. I often used the zvd's pull down screen for an impromptu flashlight. I really do not like neon colors, which is why I detested the zvj and its neon green. I can't find much in descriptions or screenshots on the DanteRom. I don't want to go through the trouble of getting it installed and find I will still have all that darkness and neon. I am skeered to try new things blind.

Basically, I need someone to walk me through anything more that a basic root. I am not all that great following long directions due to kids interrupting me constantly. Titanium Back up was great for removing the crap, and I was pretty happy with it after that. Except for not getting mms. That kinda sucks but I just haven't called the provider yet to fix that. It was short and simple to do. I have 5 kids, a cat, a lazy co-parent and a big dog, short and sweet is best for sanity's sake.

Thanks again, for your help! I will try to research more about the DanteRom. Maybe I can find out more specifics.

I don't know what you're talking about with the neon green on ZVJ, but I have no such thing on my ZVJ-based DanteROM. If you're talking about the desktop background, you can choose your desktop background whether you're using stock or custom ZVD or ZVJ ROMs. I use the same desktop background on DanteROM that I used on my stock ZVD ROM. There are some screen shots of DanteROM here.

If you're happy with what you've got, then that's fine. But just so you know, the instructions that I wrote at the link below are spoon-fed, step-by-step instructions for people who have never done it before. If you're familiar with rooting and Titanium Backup then you're even ahead of my target audience. Maybe try it after the kids go to bed.
