Rooting a Sony Z5

David Droid

Newbie
Can anyone help me root my Sony z5. I've had no luck. I've tried all the "one click" apps to no avail of course. Thought I'd try flashing a rom I got "supersu zip" but I can't enter recovery mode on my phone. Help please. We can even do it remotely via skype or if you know hot to remote access my computer too.

The one click root apps won't work on Android 6.0 and above.

Have you unlocked your bootloader? You can't root the Z5 without first unlocking your bootloader by the looks of things.

I thought it was unlocked I have the option open that says allow it to be unlocked but I don't think it's unlocked. I'm on that right now I'll be back. :)

While my phone is backing up now via the Sony companion, would the one click apps work then once it's unlocked or do you recommend flashing? If Flashing, do you recommend the supersu zip one? Or something else or what would you do?

Cool, before you replied and before I figureed out the bootloader was not unlocked probable I came across this video? Any good also?

Both get their instructions and downloads from xda, which is a very legit website so either/or should be good.

I'd probably go with the first link though, it looks a little more complete.

Hey man, or anyone, maybe if you are still around you can help me out. I'm having a bitch of a time with this unlocking of the bootloader instructions. I don't understand them at all. I downloaded the SDK command line tools and I unchecked everything in the SDK manager except Google USB drivers as it says. Then I get lost at fastboot download and install. I download it, and there is 1. no way to install it. It's a 2 kb text file and that's it. And the next part about renaming is poorly worded have no idea what it means. The link to the whole thing is here: https://developer.sonymobile.com/un...erification/797c02d6f1e15cddb0b946bdbfa69660/

I got two machines so whichever is easier linux or windows 10

I know I downloaded the command line tools only on the bottom of the web page is that also too many? It's downloading again right now I'm doing it again just to make sure I'm doing it right. So these are wrong I just file it with the Sony website said

Okay I'm using a fresh Linux install right now that I just put on a partition on my drive and I'm going to follow these mini ones that you said and see what happens

You don't need the full SDK, download the mini version of adb here: http://androidforums.com/threads/adb-guide-updated-2014-11-11.443072/#post-5389081
I got into fastboot mode with the blue light and all. and got weird messages back after doing like the manual says by sony. See screen shot. What now? one photo and the other is with this link https://img42.com/lZcPg
