Root Rooting!! (First time rooter, noob)

iVapor

Newbie
I have froyo 2.2 UK version but can't get into download/recover mode via the 3 button mode.
Does this make rooting risky for me??
Only want to root my phone as easy as possible to install the lagfix as the phone is so damn slow!!
How can i go about it?? Was going to use that z4root thing but hasn't it been taken off the market?? thanks

If you have an UK 2.2 then update via Kies to 2.2.1 and it wont be damn slow anymore. (Official update 2 days out)

For rooting Superoneclick. But try to get your recovery modes working. (over at xda I believe there are some guides)

what are benefits of rooting your phone? thinking about doing it to my captivate when it arrives

Uf, they are the same as with any other Android phone. You could kinda just google it?.

Well for me they are:
1. payed apps (no payed apps in my market)
2. no ads
3. screenshots
(even though there were some threads about this without root)
4. better backup (much better backup)
5. more config, like DPI , freezing aps I dont need, controlling whats and when will start
6. easier fixing
7. custom roms (not for me on the galaxy yet :) )
8. control over CPU
9. more tethering options (which werent in the earlier versions of the programs)
10. lag and speed improvements
11. what I heard some graphical tweaks also

ANYWAY this you could google easily, or just put ROOT into appbrain and read the desc of the apps

Yeah i'm looking at the guides on XDA, surely my 3 button combo fix should work as i've got an orange version of the phone bought from carphone warehouse in the UK?
Really want to root my phone, however i do want the 3 button mode first, them guides are far too compliacted!! don't have a clue what all of this (below) means:
1. Unplug the phone from the computer (if connected)
2. Kill all Kies related software (tray agent, etc)
3. Start Odin3 v1.3 Downloader
4. Plug in the phone to the computer
5. Start a new command prompt and navigate to the folder / drive where adb is located.
If you haven
