Root rooting for dummies

I havent rooted a phone since my original droid one. Its been a couple years. I think i would like to root my bionic, run a new rom, and overclock it. I have been doing alot of looking around here and it looks more complicated than i remember on my d1. Could somone throw togather a quick post of the first step to the last one. root-rom-and overclock. Also if needed nandroid backup. Im pretty lost right now. Thanks if somone has time!

edit: for me Overclocking is not a big concern.

We have handy guides in the "All Things Root" sticky thread for a reason. :)

Overclocking is a bit trickier with a locked bootloader, google search "Opptimizer" but it involves manually loading some files onto your phone, and after all the effort I felt like running at 1.2GHz wasn't really worth it compared to the stock 1GHz and just left mine stock for now.

i just didnt know the order of anything that had to be done etc. i dont know what boostraps or safe straps and evrything else is. And if to use titanium backup vs nandroid backup. basicly lookin for the easiest route to go for rooting the first time on the bionic.
In the motofail instructions it says ???? then profit at the end. im assuming that means your done.
After root, on the d1 there was a superuser icon in the app drawer, is there on on bionic also so i know rooting worked?

Also when it says run motofail does that mean copy it off my computer onto my bionics sd card?
