Root Rooting for Noobs

R2Droid2

Lurker
Sup guys/girls,

I'm interested in rooting my Motorola Droid phone for the first time. I'm finding a bunch of sites, but nothing with concrete info. I'm currently at version 2.1-update1 and want to root to 2.2 Froyo w/ Flash. Can anyone offer insight or provide a good link to use? I don't want to brick my baby. Thanks!

I just did my first root yesterday and now I'm running bbv.04 on chevy's 1Ghz ulv kernel. It's not as scary as it seems. When it's all over, you will be quite happy.

Good luck.

The above Youtube video worked great, I'm going to look at some custom ROMs & give it a shot. Thanks for the quick help!

Having an issue, of course. I'm at build 2.0.1. I have downloaded the ROMs or kernels as I found them to my desktop. Copied them to my SD card and renamed them to update.zip. Transfered them to my SC card. I rebooted holding X & power. I wiped all factory data & the cache. I clicked apply update.zip. It says Update complete almost immediately, I click "reboot now", yet I'm still at the same 2.0.1 Flash. Any tips or ideas? I've researched some & followed every step to the T. Thanks!

first thing is to make sure your file is not named "update.zip.zip" this happens when your PC is not showing extensions. you could also find the file on your phone with Astro file manager (free in the market) and then rename it that way.

Just an update, was configuring the files incorrect. I was able to get ChevyNo1's SSv4.4, 1.2 Kernal installed. It's running stable & ******ed fast. I feel like I just got a brand new phone, soo much more to customize/tweak & learn. Thanks a bunch guys/girls.

I get my replacement tomorrow and I get to root it.
I too will have that new phone feeling :) I am on stock 2.1 right now til the replacement comes. I like the battery life, but I LOVE the OC on a rooted Droid :)
