Root rooting galaxy y

hi guys, do I need a PC to root my galaxy y s5360 or I can download update.zip file directly on my galaxy y. And then root my phone.
 
I don't think it is possible for an android device to root itself. I have not rooted myself, but I know that you have to drop some sort of .zip file into the root directory or something.
