Rooting help

Here's the deal: I am BRAND NEW to the smart phone scene and have absolutely no clue what I'm doing. A lot of forums on this site have been helpful and I've become really interested in rooting my Phone. However, even the "rooting for dummies" page is too advanced. No offense guys, but I don't speak computer. I have no idea what all the random software dohicky whatevers are. All other forums have been rude to me and acted like I was vermin. I just want some help.

In order for us to help we need to know what phone you have. Rooting an Android phone is not the same for all phones. Each phone has it's own rooting process. The best way to learn how to root your phone is to go to the specific section in this forum for you phone. Most if not all the section have a "All things root" section. This is where you can get specific questions answered.

The only advise I can give you is keep reading. I spent about two months reading different forums and asking question before I attempted my first root.

No offense intended, but you don't sound like a good candidate for rooting. Rooting is not for everyone. Don't attempt it until you are very sure you know what you're doing, have a plan to fix things if something goes wrong and are willing to accept any consequences.

Ask yourself 'What do I need to root for? What do I want to do that requires root access?' The answer will probably be nothing. Most people root for fun, not out of necessity.

rooting your phone means giving yourself root, or superuser (think...admin) access, giving you access to system files and the ability to change things that normally are marked read only

This allows you to change all kinds of things that normally you wouldn't be able to, along with install custom versions of Android.

Welcome to Android Forums!

Once you let us know which device you have, we can introduce you to the appropriate section where the members will be able to advise you and answer any specific questions you have. Rooting is rarely as complicated as it seems at first glance (with one or two notable exceptions), never fear.

Good luck, and enjoy your stay. :)
