Root Rooting HTC EVO 4G Gingerbread help... noob (pic)

I'm trying to root an old phone so I can set it up to monitor my garage door.
I didn't realize the one-click root that is advertised on the internet costs $39 - call me cheap, but I think I can do it for less, I hope!

Is there an easy way for a noob to root this phone?

You need not go full S-off to do what you want with the garage door monitor.....just follow Step 1: HTCdev method (recommended)

Yes there are several steps, but trust me, it's really not that hard

No idea what Towelroot is.
Haven't tried anything yet. Just trying to get an idea of how to do it.

I cannot get to the HTCdev bootload website, it tells me it's an untrusted connection.

Perhaps your particular AV or whatever is tagging it as such, but no worries.

Is there a way I can setup my android phone as a server, and log into it with another phone or computer? Something like VNC viewer and Pocketcloud?
And see what's in the view of the camera?

I really don't know, why? Did you get rooted?

Sorry, I just don't know why your inquiry about the whole VNC/phone as server bit That's kinda over my head.

The only reason I wanted to root it was to install Pocketcloud. I read somewhere that I can use an old Android phone and video camera to monitor the status of my garage door.

Well fwiw, I used this app on my Evo4g

and as far as kingo app, not sure. I've read that the kingo app, Chinese developed, will send your info to their servers.
Banned, then unbanned over at XDA.
