Root Rooting in CDMA and GSM

Hey geniuses!
I come from the windows mobile world.
In WM, you have to root cdma and gsm separately.
Is that true for android devices as well?
I ask this since GSM SGS is already rooted and Verizon CDMA SGS will launch soon and would need another root.
