Root Rooting my hero; problems with the flash rec file.

Capreece

Newbie
Im trying to root my phone, so firstly i must tell you my knowledge on this is very limited.

I have got to the stage of downloading the recovery image and flashrec to my sdcard (early days)

However when i i go install the flashrec, it doesnt recognise it. I noticed that it wasnt an .apk file but in the walkthrough it mentions it being an apk file.

Any ideas on where to go next?

Also

I tried adding .apk on to the file on my comp and put it onto my sd.

On my phone i press on it and go on "open app manager", but it says it could not open it as an apk file....

Any ideas?

You can install flashrec (or any .apk) using the file manager 'Astro'. Then when you click on it, open it with 'Package Manager' (or something along those lines).

Astro is what i am using, however when i open it "with app manager", it says it cannot open the file as an apk.

Hang on, you said it wasn't an .apk file? Was it actually a .zip file? You might have to extract it from the .zip.

Or, you might have to change it to .apk like you tried. But if you do it on the PC, file extensions are hidden by default so you would just have named it flashrec.apk.zip

Either way, blue nova's link should just work straight off without any messing.
