Root Rooting phones

surgerush

Android Enthusiast
I have an LG Optimus V through Virgin mobile. I'm not tech nut by any means, I'm not completely in the dark when it comes to technology, but I'm not really good with that kind of stuff either. I've been looking up stuff about rooting phones and how it makes them faster and everything and it sounds like something that is really useful and all, but how much do you actually need to know to do this without messing anything up? I'd love to be able to overclock the phone and underclock the phone when needed and be able to update the android operating system, but I don't know if I know enough to do this type of stuff without turning my phone into a paper weight. Any help would be appreciated.

accidentally made a new thread when I was just trying to fix the title... don't know how to delete this one. sorry

Rooting itself does not make your phone faster. Once you are rooted, you can flash new roms, which can make your phone a little faster. But also, if you don't know what you are doing, you could completely brick your phone.

The more you read, the less likely you are to ruin your phone by doing something you shouldn't. Personally, I am very smart when it comes to computers and phones and such (thats actually what my college degree is in), and I spent over a month reading things about rooting before I did it to my phone.

Same here, although I recently rooted my old V that has a cracked/shattered non-viewable screen, with superoneclick. :D both methods are very easy, basically all methods are fairly easy. But I would suggest either superoneclick or the one mentioned above.

I'm kind of on the edge about rooting the phone. Thanks for the responses though, will definitely keep them in mind if I decide to.

I rooted with the above referenced "w/o computer" guide and I had a bit of a scare doing the process...I am a complete technology dummy. but I spent two weeks reading everything that the great people here recommended, and I had some help from posters here during the process... It all turned out well, and I love my rooted phone. I only rooted b/c I wanted to use Link2sd and get more apps on the phone...I'm not overclocking or flashing new roms or anything fancy, but I'm really very pleased with all the extra space available for apps on my phone. Hope that helps!
