Root rooting question. HELP

Hey guys
I got a used nexus s 4g from my friend
I want to root it
I saw that rooting wiped all data. I did research and found out that the boot unlocking wipes it. Well on this phone its booted unlocked but not rooted. I have lots of info on here and don't want to loose it. Can I finish rooting without data wipe.

My mind question is

This phone has booted lock state as UNLOCKED and I want to finish the root process without data wipe. Can you help

Sorry about the lack of replies the answer was of course yes. There are a lot of communities out there and frankly this phone is not getting the support it deserves anymore. If you PM any other questions you have or need help with I can help but I only check in here about once a week if I am lucky anymore.

You're almost there man! All you have to do next is flash the recovery and superuser then you're done. Here's a helpful YouTube video showing the process.

When you install the android SDK make sure you also install the platform-tools, as well as the Google USB drivers so that the computer reads your phone.
