Root Rooting question............

Ok so i used one click to root...had everything go thru and had the superuser icon to confirm the root.

I loaded a froyo 2.2 ROM from the SD card and had everything go thru, but could not get the phone out of airplane mode...Bc i had no backup, I found a stock ROM on the site and put that on SD card and updated with that ROM.

Everything booted up normally but I had a force close error non-stop so I did a factory wipe which fixed everything and made the phone basically back to stock.

Now, I want to re root. I DLed the terminal emulator app and Im not getting the $ or able to access the app ROM manager bc there is no root...BUTTTTT i was under the impression that when I hold down the down, power, camera button the menu font is green instead of blue which I though meant the phone was rooted. Please help...I want to re-root and load a Rom. Thanks a lot.

In order to flash a 2.2 ROM, you need to use Odin to push the appropriate modem (likely a DK28 modem).

So, to confirm, if you power off the phone and press and HOLD the volume down, camera AND power button.... what color do you see, orange, green or blue?

Well, you are rooted then.

If you have a ROM .zip file on your SD card, do a data/factory wipe from Clockwork (the green screen) at least twice, wipe cache (2x) and go advanced and wipe davlik cache (2x). Then install zip from SD card (pick the ROM) wait for it to load.

If you are doing a Froyo ROM based off of DK28 you'll need to use Odin to update your modem. [ROM]VIPERrom [Apocalypse] EXT4-RFS Dual DK28 4.0.2c - 01/11/11!! - xda-developers has a link to the modem and post 2 has directions on how to put it on your phone.

How can you tell what version your modem is?

yea the clockwork is green BUTTT when i access ROM MANAGER or TITANIUM BACKUP it says that i need to root my phone to gain access...I tried to use one click to re root 3 more times and didnt fix anything...Im stuck! thanks for the info you gave me

Hey I was thinking about just treating it as a bricked epic or one I want back to 100% stock the starting all over...is that safe to do? Also, Im almost positive the Froyo didnt work and was stuck in airplane mode bc I had the baseband DI18 still on the phone...is there a way to flash a rom THEN change the baseband because I thought the ROM would have included everything. Thanks.

Yeah, you should be able to do it that way. IIRC, there may be a flashsble modem update that will work if you are still on DI18. Am at work though, so I can't find it for you at the moment.

this might be what Kelmar was talking about above... a flashable zip for updating the modem to dk28. i've never tried this, i have always just used Odin to update the modem. but maybe this will help?

http://firon.net/xda/stock.dk28.modem.update.signed.zip

OK so i flashed back to 100% stock and im attempting to RE root...this is what im getting when doing one click...i tried maybe 10x....

ok so now im a stock Epic with 2.1, DI18 and want to go to a ROM that requires DK28. The last time i put the zip on sd and flashed, DK28 wasnt on the phone and I was stuck in airplane mode. Do i just put dk28 on my phone THEN do the zip rom flash or all at once? Thats the part that has me confused..thanks again for the info.

Try the link that Yogi put above. Flash it through Clockwork (ROM first or Modem first... shouldn't matter). -OR- Use Odin to install the DK28 modem.

Hi this is my first post be gentle.
I'm trying to root my phone i have not had much luck. I get an error code saying E: failed to footer from sd card/update.zip(is a directory) E: signature verification failed. Installation aborted. What is going on? Can you help me.

To confirm, you have an Epic, right?

Do you have USB Debugging ON?

Followed the directions in the link that I posted above?

Confirmed that you have an SD card in the phone?

Tried rebooting phone and computer?
