Root Rooting questions

this is my 2nd design, My first one from day one would get really hot so I had to return it for a new one. My first Phone I had rooted it by flashing root using cwm. I was just wanting to know how to root just with cwm and su on my stock rom without having to flash copies onto my phone. I have it unlocked and have the latest cwm installed. Im just wanting to know more in depth on how to actually root.
im just trying to learn so be kind lol.

Well I tried lol. I Googled all day but couldn't find what I wanted. I just did it the simple way. I flashed the newest version of cwm ( which is the best ever hands down) then I flashed a root zip with cwm that installs su and everything to root my phone. One day I will learn how to do what the zip did lol.

I believe (if i'm mistaken please correct me) that all that zip does is installs the SU and BB apps onto your phone and runs the "fix permissions" feature in CWM
 
It does,, I had installed su and went to cwm and fixed permissions but it didnt update the binary. I just couldn't get access to my phone that way. The zip forced it and I wanted to be able to do that without the zip.
The zip works great though. after unlocking the phone then flashing cwm then running the root zip file took about 5 min everything works great.
Thanks to 2fast and all the devs responsible you make it easy.
