Root Rooting quetions

I will be getting the new RAZR in a few days. I'm think of maybe rooting it & I not a phone tech so dont know much about it.
My questions are:
1 What are the advantages of rooting?
2 If Rooted can you still get the updates from Verizon?
3 Will this void the warrenty?
4 If I decide to root is there an easy step guide to follow?
5 Is there any way to get free wifi hotspot other that rooting?

1. Custom roms/themes/apps/freeze bloatware
2. Usually yes, or leaked version will be available
3. Yes. There is a full recovery process available now though :D

Unfortunately, the owner of the site says that discussing ways to tether is considered "theft of service" unless the tethering plan is purchased from the carrier. Sorry :(
