Root Rooting Samsung Galaxy S4

Hi,

my Samsung Galaxy S4 is approaching it's end-of-warranty and I am considering rooting and subsequently installing an apk such as Cyanogen Mod (mainly because the heavily customized Samsung android version in general and the low-battery warning pop-ups at 25% and 5% in particular - which cannot be disabled - are driving me insane).

However I am new to rooting and ROM installation and - although I'm able to most likely figure out the rooting process myself and in a swift manner as well as the ROM installation itself - am having other issues and worries about this.

They are as follows:

1. If I should decide to go for another apk like Cyanogen Mod, I am worried about possible hardware/software incompatibilities in relation to my Samsung Galaxy S4, ie. could there be any issue with drivers that are non-existent or faulty and possibly do not work with or disable functionality for the screen, keyboard, wifi, antennas or other hardware items?

2. If I install a new apk and get the aforementioned issues or just regret the install in general, does anybody know if there is a possibility of downloading and reinstalling the original Samsung apk that is installed on my Samsung right now (ie. from the Samsung website)? And - thinking a bit out of the box here - would it be possible to make some sort of backup apk of the present installation that could be reinstalled if desired (and I don't just mean system-settings, images, files etc. but as a complete apk-package ready to be installed)?

Any input and response no matter how small or big is welcome.

Thanks in advance for any help. ;)
