Root Rooting TFT San Francisco Help?

Basically i got this phone and its loaded with Orange Fimware which i hate! I want to get rid of it. I also know about all of the custom android OS (ROMs) that are out there and want to unofficially upgrade to a newer version of android e.g Froyo or Gingerbread.

However, im a noob when it comes to this and want to know: how to do it (step by step), the best ROMs, known problems, ways to back up and any other precautions to take when doing it... The last thing i want to do is to brick it.

I have a ZTE Blade/San Francisco Gen1, TFT Screen.

Thanks.

I know what you mean, i could barely even look at the screen and couldn't wait to use up the twenty quid credit orange made me buy! This was my first go at modding a phone and i was apprehensive at first but it's surprisingly easy to do. There are a few guides out there but the one i used was this

How To Root The Orange San Francisco / ZTE Blade

easy to follow and step by step for noobs like us! After the first time you've done it it's simply a case of perform a nandroid backup, backup apps, download zip, transfer it to phone sd, boot into clockwork, wipe, choose the rom file from sd, reboot....then restore all your apps. If you don't like the rom just flash another or use the nandroid backup to return it to it's previous one. Half an hour of fiddling or less!

The guide recommends a swedish spring but i preferred FLB 10 or 11. JJ9 And the Modaco ones get a lot of shouts too. Probably best to try a few and see what suits. Well worth reading the thread associated with them for any known issues/bugs. The 2.3 roms require upgrading to the gen2 layout or the use of a converter file. Both are surprisingly simple to do now once you've gotten used to things. Good info here and a list of current roms in 2.2 & 2.3 flavours...
