Root Rooting this phone while using on MetroPCS?

I am considering buying this phone soon, but will have it flashed to MetroPCS. If I were to root it and eventually install a custom rom, would a rom from this forum for the T-Mobile version work on my phone or will it erase the flashed portion?

Why don't you just buy the lg spirit its basically the same thing just on metro and upgraded
