Root Rooting thunderbolt with ICS update

I'm new to rooting phones. I have a Thunderbolt with ICS 4.04 and I am trying to find the best way to root it. I want to flash some ROMs, maybe a debloated ICS and save my battery life. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks
