Root Rooting to ICS?

I have been thinking about rooting my DINC2 to a custom for sometime.
I was hoping for the ICS OTA, but doesn't seem likely.
From what I have read this process seems painful.
What I would lke to know is, do you think it is worth it?
Which rom is the way to go, which is the most stable and offers the most?
Is it safe in regards to keep s-on vs s-off.
How difficult is it, and how difficult it is to return to stock if I don't like it?

S-off means you can flash radios and kernels. No danger.

It's pretty easy to return to stock.

I'm running EclipticSense. Some prefer UKB for Sense 4.

Scotty85's root instructions are really clear and he helps people who get stuck. I try but Scotty does better.

Found it, but do I want to go S-off?

With HTCdev unlock (s-on) you can flash ROMs but not kernels (or ROMs with kernels without some gymnastics) or radios. With s-off you can do anything you want. Use your second link.
