Rooting To Improve Response Time?

Unencumbered by any real knowledge, I wonder if all the little apps and services that I have no control over (e.g. Google+, Gmail, sSuggest, Google Play Magazines, Kno Textbooks, MusicFx, MediaHub, MusicHub...and so-forth) might be diminishing response time and/or using up the battery needlessly.

Has anybody rooted just to get down to a "pure" Android system and actually observed faster response and/or better battery life?

I have rooted my Evo and flashed an AOSP rom and it was alot faster.
I have also rooted my Galaxy S3 but have not flashed and AOSP rom yet.
The AOSP roms are more of a pure Android system.
But alot more depends on how responsive the device is and rooting does allow you to get down into the kernel settings and bloatware removal etc, among other things. :)
