Rooting Toshiba Thrive

I am looking for a tablet for my kids so they will leave my wife's Ipad alone. I have the opportunity to purchase a 32g Toshiba Thrive from a co-worker for 50.00. I have read here that once rooted, the Thrive can be brought up to 4.1.2. My question is; will that basically allow my 14 and 12 yr olds to do everything they need (web browsing, netflix, games, etc)

If so, it seems like a pretty good deal.
