Root Rooting Tutorial/Glossary?

Can anyone point me to a "Rooting for Dummies" sort of tutorial that outlines the concepts, terms and general procedures for rooting an Android phone? I'm just sticking my toe in the waters and have followed procedures to unlock, S-OFF, flash ROMs, etc. but doing it somewhat blind and not knowing the theory and technology behind it. Things like: what's the difference between the bootloader and Fastboot? What exactly gets updated when you flash a ROM? Is there such a thing as updating only the radio? Stuff like that...

Saw in another thread that the site "rootyourdroid.info" came highly recommended but it looks as though it's defunct.

Thanks for any suggestions or hints!

FYI,runing the unrevkoed forever zip gives you a radio s-off,wich is why it remains even when you flash different bootloaders.
