Root Rooting Xperia 2.3

Hey guys..
I have installed stock 2.3 on my xperia but I am having issues with the lag of it on my xperia. My xperia is 2009 model and I don know whether it is compatible with the 2.3. I want to root it so that I can remove some unwanted apps which would help the Ram to boost. Can you guys give me rooting guide and how to install stock rom. Is it required to install xrecovery to install stock or we can do it without it.
Please guide I have already bricked my phone thrice and am I now worried about rooting.

Thanks in advance

Two options I would suggest.

You could simply root and then remove ( 2.3.3 List Of safe Apps To Remove - xda-developers )what apps you want using an app like Titanium Plus....or you could root, then install xRecovery which would allow you to install premade ROMs made by users.

Usually once you end up rooting and messing around with Titanium Plus and removing apps, next thing you'll want to do is setup xRecovery and reformat and flash a fancy premade ROM.

First thing you want to make sure of is if rooting is going to be quick or not. Do you have the ability to install unknown apps? Open Settings->Applications->is there a checkbox for Unknown software sources? If so, check it, and click into Development and check USB debugging. Those two options need to be on in order to root....when you are in there check Stay Awake while charging....it will make it easier until you are rooted....then you can turn that off again.

If you don't have those checkboxes, you will need to install a generic 2.3 rom for the x10a or x10i...because you have a carrier specific version...like an AT&T phone that prevents users from installing any apps that aren't on the Market.

Now to root. Can take under 5 minutes, but will probably take a while the first time you do it.

Download the Flashtool from here - http://azuzu.spice.net.au/tools/X10_GB_Root/FlashTool_0.2.9.1-GBready_root_xRec.exe

That specific version will be needed.

Open it on your computer.

Do the following:

At this point I want to root, so I need to use the Downgrade TFT file and then root, then Upgrade back to where I am at now (but rooted)

I turn off the phone

So back in the x10 Flashtool, I Flash, then by default it loaded the \firmware folder where the x10 flashtool is installed I select the Downgrade TFT file

I unplug the USB cable, I turn off the phone....keep the x10 Flashtool open

Now I want to turn on the phone but the second I feel the vibration it makes when it turns on, I plug in the USB cable

I am unable to select Root and the phone freezes at the Sony Ericsson screen

I have to go to Advanced at the top of the menu bar in the x10 Flashtool and select Root and beside that select Force psneuter

Nice, now in the x10 Flashtool I can see it no longer says "Android version : 2.3.3 / kernel version : uname: permission denied" it says "Android version : 2.3.3 / kernel version : 2.6.29
"

Now that it is rooted, it still doesn't boot, until I Upgrade, so I can't turn off the phone with the power button...I pop out the battery

In the x10 Flashtool I goto Flash and select the Upgrade TFT file

Make sure USB cable is plugged in and hold the Back button and put the battery back in the phone

Now that I have Upgraded back to 'normal' I am rooted and have 2.3.3...unplug USB, start the phone up

The other steps are listed here - http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/420821-problem-installing-xrecovery-2-3-a.html

Let me know if you have any followups.
