Hi,

Can anyone tell me what rooting does and the benefits, i've heard of it a lot but unsure if i should do it.

There are many benefits, the main one being you are able to remove the sony software bundled with your phone.

it also allows you to mod the phone more, IE themes, JIT (Optimizer)

and allows you to wifi tether, which is basically using your phone a router.

Also, it allows you to block the adds built into some apps, which can be frustrating.

so there are many benefits, and you can make it as Technical as you like.

Can it void my warrenty and can it be unrooted if i changed my mind?

It does void your warranty but at the same time if you do it right I believe you can save the original version of the OS including all the carrier bloatwear so if you have a small issue with the phone then you can reflash the original OS and they wont know.

Ok that was how it worked on 1.6 but I cant see why it would have changed to much for 2.1.
