Routers... How Much Tech Do I Need

I never gave Costco any consideration as a shopping option. I do have a membership and I will give them a chance at my business. Thanks!
Cost has great deals, but options are always super limited, though they do have the key contenders.
anybody considered google nest or other mesh networks? i don't really need to extended my network save for when i'm outside my porch or front yard...it gets kind of slow. google nest seems to get great reviews so far.

plus i just saw this review for Ubiquiti AmpliFi Alien Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router:
Wifi 6 mesh is so new, I'm a bit warry of the first couple out there. But I LOVE the idea of mesh.

2 weeks ago I went with Gen 2 Nest Wifi and haven't looked back. # of bands is important, moreso than the number of the router (ac1300, 1900, 2700, etc). I was going to get 1 AX (wifi 6) router, but ultimately decided I like having everything thing working together, and since I already have Nest Home, bunch of Home speakers, chromecast, and nest deadbolt, I figured might as well go with Nest Wifi
The new router arrived a while ago and is now online. My pings at cox went from 90mbps to 350 download and uploads went from near 10 mbps to 32. I'm a happy camper!

That's awesome! I had a 4 year old Linksys AC tri-band that required resetting every week or so. My speeds didn't get much better, but looking forward to no more resetting router!

My router was so old that it was just a step up from using smoke signals. :) I seriously don't know how old it was but in tech years it was ancient. It was rock solid and didn't require rebooting but it maxed out at 100mbps. It was plenty fast years ago but wasn't even fast enough to deliver the speeds of my provider's minimal data plan. I was past due for the upgrade.

I know the feeling. And chances are you will not find anything that reliable anymore. Speeds will be good, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them start to fail at or around the 5 year mark. They truly don't make them like they used to.

I had to smile when I saw the power button on the new router. My old router could only be rebooted by unplugging it. They didn't foresee the need to cycle it.

So far no issues with your new beast, all is working fine ??

I ended up going back to the Netgear, and the new TP Link I got was still dropping 2.4 G WiFi coverage. So I went with the Costco Netgear HightHawk X6S, and so far, it's been a week and no lost of 2.4 WiFi signal. I still think the issue is where I have the router setup in the office, but I have no choice. I think there is some sore of interference there, I say that bc when I use my BT headset for TV, if I walk into my office it breaks up completely and sound goes out.

I'll keep an eye for another week, to make sure, before I take back the TP Link, it's too bad, bc TP Link support was great, and you can ask them online questions anytime even is warranty expires, not the the case with the other routers, but if it don't work like it should then it's useless.

Everything is working stellar Don. I have zero complaints. I have my doubts the router or the new modem will last as long and the equipment they replaced. They way of technology, they should have been replace a couple of years back. It's tough to toss to the curb functional electronics even though they were incapable of delivering the speeds I was paying for.

I'm sorry to hear that the TP Link was dropping signal. It will be interesting to see if the Netgear HightHawk continues to to do the job.
I just took a look at my Asus book as well as the modem and neither mention interference avoidance. However, I well recall when looking online prior to purchase that it can be and is an issue sometimes. Good luck.

So far so good, and yes it does happen, I had an older version nighthawk which was about 4 years old and it had the same issue, then I got the TP Link after much research and that worked fine, and then the odd issue with signal, after a reboot it was fine, but I didn't want to have to keep reboot the router, which I why I replaced the first in the first place. So we'll see, If not, then I'll have to find a way to move the main router to the center of the house, and run cat cables to the main office, or move my office, LOL So fingers crossed for now

I hope it continues to deliver. Wiring a home after the fact is not easily achieved. All of the new homes I work in are pre-wired with the main office located in a basement area or the like. Modem and router are on the main floor in a far better area to service the house.
Again, I do hope that you just had some bad router luck and it's not an interference problem.
