[RUMOR][NEW PHONE] HTC One V

tiede

Android Expert
So, now that our device is officially SOL'ed by Metro (the jerks... :(),
I was happily scouring the interwebs on my tethered lappy when i came accross this: HTC One V heading to Metro PCS, Virgin Mobile and US Cellular - SlashGear

WHY MUST WE ALWAYS GET THE LOW END ITEMS!!!:mad::mad:

I say it's time we kick metro's lazy but into giving us a worthy highest-of-the-high-ends device!
Who's with me! :D

From Phonescoop:
An HTC spokesperson today confirmed that Metro PCS, U.S. Cellular, and Virgin Mobile will all offer the HTC One V. The phone runs Android 4.0 with Sense 4, and features a dual-core processor, 3.7-inch display, and 5-megapixel camera.

dual core and the reason is simple buddy metro wont pay too much to for a product that they expect to sell around $400 at the most, they have to keep at a budget in order to afford to sell to us for a price that they know we can afford. Thats why contract phone companies get all the good stuff cuz with a 2 year contract sure they can sell you the phone for $99 but in the process of 2 years you have paid for that phone atleast several times.

So is it single or dual-core... I'm confused :(

Single core...the htc one x is the dual core. I've figured that metros phone were low end but the I thought the esteem was supposed to be high end. What's the difference between the lg revolution and the esteem? Besides the memory.

HTC one X:::1.5ghz dual core snapdragon processor, 4.7inch Super ISP LCD 2 screen, 32GB internal memory, sense 4.0, ics 4.0, 1GB Ram, GPU-ULP GeForce....No microSD card slot (High End phone) coming to T-mobile
HTC one S:::1.5ghz dual core snapdragon processor, 4.3inch Super Amoled screen, 16GB internal memory, sense 4.0, ics 4.0, 1GB Ram , GPU adreno 225.....No microSD card slot (High End phone)
HTC one V:::1ghz single core processor, 3.7inch LCD screen, 4GB internal memory, sense 4.0, ics 4.0, 512MB Ram, no GPU I guess.....microSD card slot up to 32GB (Mid-Range phone) coming to (MertoPCS) (virgin mobile) (US celluar)

But an HTC spokesperson said it was dual-core to PhoneScoop?

Oh, and to n4zty:

But that's where they are wrong. I -and I suspect quite a few other MPCS users would rather shell out 5-600 bucks for a higher end device than put up with cr*p all the time... Honest.
I may hesitate to go 700 if the specs are not REALLY good, like Nexus S (killer) good, but I definitely would get my best bang for my buck instead of just lower priced crap...

I have no doubt buddy in that but metro thinks in quantity terms if we could pinpoint the exact percentage of people willing to spend $500-$600 i really dont think it would be a high percentage. but have u also noticed after a month or so they lower the prices? im speculating in the first month they try to earn their money back and then everything else is pure profit, so if they were to sell these phones for $600 how long do u think it would take for them to get their money back from that low percentage of people that have have enough money to burn on a phone that is worth or equal to one of their rent payments?

Lol reaper i remember buying the indulge when it first came out for the keyboard but after having it for a while i relized i barely ever used the keyboard. Now i have the Lg esteem and im comfortable with it so far no cons i could point out on it.

true, people would shell out more money for a better phone but there is not enough demand to have Metro make money off of it.

exactly and these other cellphone companies like verizon at&t and sprint can afford to get all the new fully loaded phones cuz they know they got u with the 2 year contract so reality that $650 phone is rented to own with interest cuz believe me in two years they get their money's worth plus more.

I don't know about metro, but when it comes to Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile (both use Sprint's network), I bet that sprint limits their selection of phones so as not to eat into the customer base of their main network.

Prepaids are what is refered to in economics as an "inferior product." Kinda like wal-mart for retailers. In a recession, their sales will go up. That is the market the prepaids are designed to capture (as well as the cheap skates like me). If they put too good of a product on the networks, it would pull the sales away from the main (higher priced) networks.

However, I do think smartphones are reaching a technology plateau. Not in actual numbers, just in worth to the consumer. For most uses, a customer only needs a phone to be so fast and there is a limit to the benifit of increasing screen resolution. The Motorola Triumph hit the "good enough" point for me and I switched.

Consequently, they can't keep the technology away from the prepaids for ever. Slowly but surely the market will switch to the prepaids due to the cheaper prices. Times are a changing and it's for the better.

+1

I too bought the Indulge at least partially because of the slide out keyboard (I have large hands, and was coming from a Blackberry). I still have my Indulge, but after starting to use Swype, I never looked back. The only thing I use the HW keyboard for now is exact positioning of the cursor using the arrow keys.

Amen, brother!

I have been preaching this for quite a while now, I think it's an important point that a lot of people don't consider. Metro PCS will be (is already?) a game changer. That's why I have been such a fan and cheerleader for Metro for such a long time. If it wasn't for them, we would still be getting hosed by the "traditional" cell phone companies. Which company would you like to give your hard earned dollars to every month for service? One of the "traditional" companies that has a long, proven history of screwing you over at every turn, or the new company that will change the entire cell phone industry way of business and pricing? That's why I happily not only give my dollars to Metro every month, but evangelize about them to friends and interested parties at any opportunity. And you should be doing the same! :D

I imagine if they saw a substantial increase in flashing they would, but most people dont buy a 600$ phone from Verizon to flash it to Metro, so really what is Metro losing?

There's a difference between flashing a phone to a new provider (some features might not work, some people feel uneasy about the whole process) and having an official high-end device sold at an official store.
A BIG difference.
What are they losing? A higher profit margin and a boost in reputation, for one thing...

I admit, I don't use the hardware keyboard as much as I use to... But it sure comes in handy when I do crazy stuff like using IRC on it, and other things where I don't want to have a software keyboard clogging up valuable screen real estate. Although I could probably manage without it...

I do wish MetroPCS releases another slider android to replace the Indulge, just to satisfy that market of users like me.

I don't mind paying a bit more for the phone as well, I have been saving up my money every check as I might buy the LG Connect 4G to replace my Indulge. It's not that I am cheap that I am with a prepaid carrier. I like the security of knowing that if I lose my Job & can't pay my cell bill tomorrow, I won't face a expensive ETF. The fact that my monthly payments to Metro being cheaper then of a similar plan on contract carrier are just a cherry on top of it all...
