Help Run out of space and camera broke?

So I have like nothing on my phone but apparently its full, i have a few apps like facebook and whatsapp and thats it and its full, how can i fix it?

also when i go to take a picture, my phone just goes to a black screen, theres no flash button or anything?

The first thing would be to find out what phone you have? Is it rooted?

If it is stock, a hard reset might be in order.

menu > settings > sd & phone storage > factory data reset

This will wipe all the data on the phone and refresh it to a new out of the box state. Make sure you've synced with the Google mother ship before you do this.
Still, it would be better if you told us the phone model first.

Ok, I'm going to move this to the Desire section in the hope it will find some more focused responses. Good luck!

So, let's start by repeating Pasta's question: is the phone running stock firmware or is it rooted?

Also, what does the "Storage" menu tell you about the phone's space (total and free)? Go into the Manage Applications menu and look at your apps (all apps, not just downloaded) sorted by size - or by data size if you can. How large are the biggest ones?

I'd rather sort out the camera first, ive done nothing to my phone. I got it from the shop and ive had it it a year, the camera just crapped out today

stock firmware

Actually, there's a function in certain camera apps that restricts you from taking pictures when your SD card /internal memory is full. Tried clearing some unwanted things in your SD card? And to free internal memory, remember to clear application cache. Your phone does not have to be rooted to do so. :)

On my SD card theres 3.42 gig available, 21mb internal phone storage, There's no cache to clear on any apps

Ahh...that's the problem...Android phones start to restrict certain functions starting from 50 MB...since you have less than 30 MB (which is the minimum for most phones), you should try to free more internal phone storage...;)

I've not heard of the Desire's camera stopping due to low internal storage, though I never let mine get quite as low as this. But if you've made no modifications and the camera has just stopped then the options are limited. So since you'll want to fix the internal storage issue anyway, I'd suggest doing that and seeing whether it fixes the camera in the process - if it does then that's a double win :)

Otherwise, have you got a different card you could try (card faults can cause odd problems)? If all else fails there's always the factory reset option, but on an unrooted phone it's a lot of effort to back everything up first, so let's keep that in reserve.

So, internal storage. You have 21MB left and only a few apps installed, which sounds wrong. So are any apps using large amounts of data (not cache)? Contacts storage and social networking apps can sometimes go crazy with the data usage (many 10s of MB), so it's worth checking these in particular. Or do you have any very large apps, in which case have you tried moving these to SD?
