Help Running apps from SDCard1 or SDCard2

gjtoth

Lurker
Pardon me if this has been addressed before. I am trying to find a way to enable the "Run from SDCard" on my tablet. Specifically, I want to run apps from either SDCARD1 or SDCARD2. I can't tell you if I have a Superpad 2 or 3 or whatever because there is so much conflicting information. Suffice it to say, I have 2 card slots and 2 USB ports. The specs I CAN pull from the tablet are:

Infomtic
Model: SAWEE10
2.2v2.1#3925
Kernel 2.6.32.9
FRF85B

Any/all help will be gratefully accepted.

Find link2sd and that should do what you require.

Remember, your SD Card will need 2 partitions, and you must keep your SD Card in the FT at all times.

I've created 3 partitions on SDCARD1. FAT32, EXT4, LinuxSwap. I still cannot get ANYTHING to install there or link to anything there. Nothing lets me select SDCARD1 or SDCARD2 as an option to link to or install anything on.

I've tried renaming the internal SD card (which is hardwired to the mainboard) to Isdcard and then renaming SDCARD1 to sdcard. It *appears* that it works, and some apps at least look for their data there, however, installing anything new goes straight to the internal storage. And, if I reboot the unit, the rename gets reset.

I don't think you understand the process, nor do you fully understand what it is you are trying to achieve.

Apps install to your tablet RAM memory by default, you can save some memory by utilising the use of a single external SD Card by the programme link2sd, thus allowing you more room to install more apps, but by the same token some apps will never run from sd card, the developers won't allow it and the system needs some apps to remain in RAM always. So the saving is not that much but can be useful, especially if you like to install a lot of apps, if your tablet is one used for max output power at all times, then you will keep your installed apps to a minimum and thus have no need for link2sd anyway.

You only need 2 partitions on your SD card, both can be FAT32 for the link2sd programme to run, thus making copying and backing up easier. When you install link2sd, it must find a second partioion to use, it will tell you it has found it, and it needs to reboot for it to work properly, this is how you know you have it working 100%.

Follow the link2sd options and it will show which apps can be moved to SD, and any apps installed after that will automatically be moved to SD Card on install, it is a seamless process.

You just always use this card when your tablet is on, and not remove it, otherwsie your installed programmes will not work.

If you are trying to utilise the data on the internal SD card for storage, then that is another matter, but it is not entirely clear on what you are actually trying to achieve here.

If you are still unsure on what it is you can, and cannot do, then please ask further questions.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The unit has a system drive (512MB) which it runs the apps from. It also has an onboard storage drive (in my case it's 1GB) that the system names "sdcard". It has TWO microSD card slots. Now, I'm trying to get it to use the first SD card slot to link to or to run the apps from. However, the system keeps pointing it to the onboard storage area NOT the external SD card. Since the external has 8 times the room, I naturally want to use IT instead of the onboard but no software, including Link2SD recognizes it being there. I've repartitioned to 2 FAT32 partitions as you suggested and it fails to recognize it. Link2SD will not repartition the onboard area (sdcard). I realize I need to leave the card in the slot. That's how my old tablet worked. Also, in the system settings, no matter what I do, the area that says "Run from SD" is greyed-out. My tablet is rooted.

The unit that my solution works on is disco models of the FT3, maybe your tablet needs a different solution as obviously the internal workings are somewhat different.

Hopefully someone will recognise your problem and your tablet and will offer a solution that works for you, good luck.

Thanks. It's good to know that I have the right concept... just the wrong tablet to work it! :)

Apps install to your tablet RAM memory by default,

No they don't. If apps were installed to RAM you would lose everything each time you turned your tablet off; RAM is volatile.

RAM is not always volatile. The SD card which is used as the internal system memory in the FT3 can be regarded as RAM but it is non-volatile. :)

No, they can't. RAM stands for Random Access Memory and refers to the fact individual bits / bytes can be addressed. SD Cards are block based and, thus, cannot be considered as RAM.

Next you'll be telling me hard disks can be regarded as RAM!
