Root Running CTMod and battery life is horrid.

Nooski

Android Enthusiast
I run 300/700 at all times and while using Facebook my battery drains 1 percent almost every minute or so. Is this even normal?

I have to put my phone on airplane mode during school hours so the battery won't drain as much.

Hmm, my battery life isn't near that bad. Facebook does drain the hell out of a battery though. Something else you can do is turn off 3g, gps, etc. Also check to see what apps you've got running in the background. If you don't need them, kill them. Another thing you can do is use Titanium Backup to freeze the Facebook and just defrost when you need to use it.. I've got the Pro key so I ca freeze as much as I want. Not sure about the free version of Titanium.

If you've tried all of that and your battery life is still bad, your battery may be going bad. I've got one of my batteries that is basically the same way. It just won't hold a charge near as long as my other batteries.

I read your past posts on better batteries. Do you recommend the Hyperion 3500 mAh battery?

Honestly, I'm not going to recommend anything that I haven't tried myself or spoken with someone who has owned it. If I were you, I would try and read some reviews on it and them make a decision. :)

Yes. I bought several off of Ebay. They are the inexpensive Chinese batteries but work pretty well. I've got (2) 1800mah and (4) 1500mah batteries.

Do the 1800 mAh batteries make a noticeable difference in your opinion?

I honestly go through batteries so fast that I really can't tell. I'm sure they do though. The best way to go would be to get one of the larger batteries that still let you use the stock back cover.

Can you recommend any seller on "fleabay"?
wanna get 1800 mAH

what u think about 1900??
i hope it's not oversized Fast Delivery 2X 1900mAh BL 44JN Battery Charger for LG Optimus Black P970 | eBay

I'm not going to recommend the seller I bought mine from. The ship time was crazy. It took a long time to get mine.

Those look pretty good and aren't oversized. I just checked and there are quite a few on Ebay and Amazon.

One thing that I strongly recommend is to check the mAh when you get the battery. Some of the sellers on Ebay wiil say the batteries are 1800 when in fact they are only 1500. There are testers that will tell you the true mAh of the battery on the market. I'm telling you this because I've had a seller try it with me. ;)

I will try this batt .
I remember you were saying that you had 2 batt 1500 instead of 1800

Can you recommend an app to check mAh???

Here is a decent thread to read with a few opinions from other members.

As far as testing the mAh of a battery, I use Battery Monitor Widget Pro. There is also a free version. The paid version gives you a lot more options but I suggest trying the free one first to give you an idea of what to expect.

The app I've got lets you go into calibration and set it to the mAh your battery is supposed to be. You run the app and compare the results from the 1800 mAh to the results of a 1500 mAh battery. By doing this comparison, you can tell whether or not you are getting battery with a longer life.

As far as an mAh tester, I'm not sure if there is actually one that tells the true mAh. I believe I've seen one on the market in the past 2 weeks but not positive. The app I use will test and show it's true capacity through the data it provides. I actually had fun figuring out the app and learning to read the stats. LOL!!

The method I use takes some time but the stats from the two batteries is a very good way to see the output of each and do a comparison.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the title of this post does a disservice to Bloodawn and all of the work that he has done in this forum. The battery issues, from what I have seen, have been isolated to a few members. Flashing custom roms, as wetbiker has pointed out, may have an effect on your battery. But "horrid," in my opinion, is a gross exaggeration.

I couldn't agree more. The battery life for CTMod REALLY isn't that bad. It all depends on how you've got your phone set up and how much you use the darn thing. I can turn 3g off and use it only when needed and my battery will last quite awhile.

Having my phone undervolted is not enough to get optimal battery life? I don't know, maybe I should try not using it at all.

I respect Blood and his work. I'm always eagerly awaiting the new CTmods as well as the alphas to the MIUI and the CMods. They great bro.

Thanks looks like a good APP. Under the Usage, it shows that my Cell Standby consumes the most. I thought I had 3G shut off, but maybe I only have data shut off. I only plan on using this phone with WiFi, so whats the best way to shut the 3G radio off?

In that Battery Widget, if you go to Tests, Phone Information, There is a button that says Turn off radio. Is this the best way to kill the 3G?

In settings, under wireless and networks, look under mobile networks for a check box to turn off data.

No. The radio is the cell signal for your phone calls. As Tombob said below, the best way to turn off 3g for sure is to make sure the box is not checked. You should also be able to turn off data in the drop down menu. You may want to turn off GPS too. It can be in the drop down or you can go to settings/ location & security to trun it off.

I have already shut down the data previously. (in the same manner Tombob described) Actually shutting off the cell signals for the phone is what I am trying to do. I am going to keep the wireless on it all the time (sleep off) and use it as a phone through groove IP for the home. If I can get the cellphone part of it shut down then I can save more battery. So far the only way I have seen is the one I described above, but I am not sure yet if that permanently disables it.

Edit: actually I just noticed that a small X appears above the cell phone signal strength meter when I disable the radio through that Battery monitor Widget, so I am guessing this is what I want.
