Help Running services

SBT

Newbie
I am sure this has been asked before... but how come there are things running under "running services" in applications even though they don't show up in the task manager as programs to shut down?? Seemed like I kept having more things running every time in the "running services" place today, after doing that update, even though I kept on stopping them they would start right back up and my battery life was far worse them usual too.

download the advanced task killer, it finds and kills more running services i believe. but there are some you just dont want to kill (running widgets for example), and some that start right back up like voice search, dialer, email, i leave those unchecked because they will come back right away

so leaving them running has no effect on battery life then?!?

because just when my battery got "decent" I did that dumb update yesterday, and now its back to being crummy again!

Typically, messing around with task killers and killing services will have more harmful effects than helpful.

Have you checked for the 50% TWS bug yet?

oh yes i def have/had that, and was always between 40-50%

after doing the airplone mode toggle though, it seemed to help with it.

well until the update that is... ever since then even with toggling that i stay between 20-40% instead of the 5% i was

So I went and did the dumb thing and killed a running widget. I've uninstalled/reinstalled it, reset my phone etc.
Any other ideas on how to get it back?

Cheers

Task Manager will enable you to kill running applications. Running services are not equal to running applications. Services are more background things that Sprint and Samsung put on there while apps (some of them anyway) are what you put on there.

I'm with Kelmar and would urge against using task killers. I personally think they do more harm than good. I do know if you have issues with your phone, one of the first questions asked is, "do you use a task killer".

As for the widget...you'll just have to long press it, drag it to the trash, and then re-add it to your home screen. That should fix it. Most widgets state in their info to uncheck their box when using task killers for this exact reason.

Ah cool I understand the difference now.

It was the running service I killed though (dumbbbb). And now a lot of my widgets don't update etc. Is there anyway to undo stopping a running service?

Thanks again for your help

Try a battery pull.

That should work or a normal reboot as well. Each time you start your phone, all the running services should start back up again. The only one I would suggest killing would be the DRM service. Outside that, I would leave the rest alone.
