Ok so I'm new to this android thing, technically I don't even have an android phone yet, I'm trying to figure out which one to get. I've played around with my mother in-laws droid razr and I really like it. I've also messed witha galaxy nexus. I like ics a lot but I hate the way the phone is layed out, mainly the 3 dedicated buttons. So I was wondering what the advantages to rooting are? What does it allow you to do exactly? Would I be able to change the dedicated buttons if it was rooted? Thanks fo the help?

i have heard a lot of things being able to do with root. things that i am so surprised about...
but i have never heard of changing the android buttons.
but the new phones .. rumor... to be like tablets.. no buttons.. so will be onscreen buttons. so should be fully customizable.. if some dev wants to mess with it.

3 dedicated buttons on the Galaxy Nexus? there aren't any buttons on the GNex, unless you are talking about the ones on screen on the bottom bar. No you can't change them. You can change the dock shortcuts though.
