Root S-off without wire trick

There used to be another method that was way more dangerous than the wire trick. It was similar in function to the wire trick and required you to brick your phone temporarily. This caused the phone to go into some kind of survival recovery mode which allowed you to upload the files you needed for s-off. The wire trick is likely a refined and controlled way of accomplishing this same thing. It automated the process and asks only of you to do the wire trick...it takes care of the rest.

The jbear wire trick is the EASY way to do it. :p

To Jose224: I just did my evo v following Remanifest's S-OFF, root, & Fix Everything All-in-One! guide. Follow it step by step, like he says in the guide. It was very easy. He supplies files you need to complete the s-off.

My first evo v and being brand new to rooting the phone was hard. But Remanifest simplified it with his guide. I got it on the second try and I just gave this a try 6 days ago. Brand new "Newb" and I did. You can too. Lots of very helpful dudes on this site, have any problems you'll receive tons of help. Check out the guide. Being S-off is a must and will open your phone to amazing apps and roms.

Don't mess around with other methods, you're more likely to brick your phone. The wire-trick is a proven method that's very safe. If in rare cases something goes wrong during the process, you can post here and our "experts" will help you troubleshoot and fix the problem.

S-off is giving you unlimited control of your phone, allowing you to flash roms and do man low-level things that you can't do while S-on. It's totally worth it and a must if you're into rooting.

The wire is the easy part. The hard part is getting the knowledge to not root the phone right after unlocking the boot loader, getting things running in Linux and complying with all the other extensive requirements of the lord high master, Unlimited.IO.

But i dont want to mess up my sd card. And also can i just use any wire and thanks for all the support and help

For the "wire", I used a paperclip with the portion that my hand touched wrapped in electrical tape. With the battery out and phone off I shaped it and made sure it fit and was ready when prompted , before I began. For the SD card I had a extra one and used that.

You can use any wire as long as they will fit in the little outer hole on the back of the phone. Make sure it's insulated, you don't want your fingers touching the wire.

Backup your SD contents before you do then you don't have to worry about losing your SD stuff. Personally, I've never lost data on SD and I've done the wire trick twice. First time sucess on first try! Second time on second try. It's easy!:D

I ended up using an old phone cable. Took out one of the wires about 4 inches long, shaved down the end exposing the solid core wire, And did it that way. Didnt have to worry about touching the wires, Because I only shaved off enough to do what it had to do. :p

It is so simple all you need is a paperclip and some thick tape so you can hold it. S off is nothing to be afraid of it is so beneficial in the long run.

Actually I explained in another S-Off post. the way S-Off messes up the sdcard is different. So a regular format doesn't work. It just makes it have barely any space on it even after a format. When you attempt the controlbear.exe program it says it's doing back ups. One of those back ups is a sdcard.img so that if your sdcard is screwed up after obtaining s-off or during it and say the sdcard is not found. There are a few commands you can use that restore the sdcard.img to your sdcard thus fixing it. I actually posted the instructions and someone used them correctly and it worked for them and their sdcard had it's full capacity back and all their files as well that were on it right before trying to S-Off. So just let me know if you screw it up and it doesn't format it to the full capacity. PM me and I'll provide you instructions on how to fix it. :]

I had absolutely no issues with my SD after s-off
I think it depends on how "clean" the actual wire trick is done. For the two Evo 3D's that I did it corrupted one SD card and not the other, but I was able to format and restore the corrupted card from Windows without any further problems.

I didnt have any issues with my SD card either after S-Off, But I had no idea it could get corrupted. :l I didnt even back up my data before doing an S-Off, And I did it with a BRAND NEW not even 2 day old 32 gb micro SD. LOL

i done two htc evo v with no problem. My 1st time it was done in1 try.. my second evo was done in 2 tries.

I used speaker wire... just cut some from a speaker and use it. Its super easy

I've done S-OFF 3 times now, with no SD Card issues. First time took me about 45 minutes, 2nd time took me about 20 minutes, and 3rd time took me only 2 tries... so I'm getting better with age, like a fine wine ;)

I'm not sure what causes the SD Card problems, but I've yet to encounter it personally.

I'll jump in with the no issues to my SD card either. I did switch to another just in case, but nothing happened.
