Root S on locked wfs

I've just rooted my Wildfire S with Android 2.3.5
If you updated your Bootloader , proceed to Step 1 in HTCdev site (the button at the bottom)
What is the exact problem you're facing ?
I also thought that Android 2.3.5 can't be rooted with S-On but I did it using that guide and its author's help

Thanks for the reply went to step 1 and followed instructions went to 5 I think I have found the 3 files and copied them to a new folder on C drive, I am not sure what files I need to download for SDK manager (Please update it if your SDK version is r11). not sure what to update

I am stuck on 3c cant see anything for HTC software version 2.3.5

Does this mean im stuffed?
Certainly not. The unlock depends on the HBOOT version, not Android version. It appears that your HBOOT version is correct because you have successfully updated it, and you are now seeing ***_LOCKED_(OOW)_*** in bootloader.

If I understand correctly, you are presently trying to unlock the bootloader and have received the img file from HTCdev, but can't push it because your SDK tools is out of date. Is this right?

Question: How did you install SDK tools? Have you tried the link in the guide found at SDK tools for Android?

When you open SDK Manager you will find under 'Tools':
Android SDK Tools (if its rev NO is 11 update it)
Android SDK platform tools (it's 10 with me)
rev number is in the same row.
To update just check the two rows and press the install button (and make sure to uncheck other updates not to take long time)

Thank You for the reply I downloaded and installed SDK I think I have the bootloader "please cut the following" message info but not the other part, REF 9a shown on HTCdev page instructions. I will have a look at the link you sent. can I keep thanking any replys or am I limited?

I have
SDK Tools Rev # 16
SDK Platform REv # 10

After a few attempts I have hopefully sent the right token

Thanks

I have SDK tools and received a token.bin all of what you say is correct. I point cmd to where I have the 3 files and the bin file on c drive and cmd cant find the folder I will try again later.

Had another go at rooting my phone at cmd error message says cant open unlock_code.bin file. I have my phone on Locked OOW screen do i need to boot the phone into normal

Not sure what to try next

What do you mean can't find the folder ?
Did you rename it in a short name (e.g. Android) ?

I suppose you've solved the first problem of finding the folder to get this far :D :D
When you open bootloader highlight FASTBOOT (you will wait for about 3 seconds before you get a response)
then press the Power button to choose it, and plug in the usb cable.
then do the cmd commands again

flash:raw boot <kernel> [ <ramd
devices
continue
reboot
reboot-bootloader

Thanks

Disk drive ??!!!
You're supposed to be opening your bootloader
when you choose fastboot open it by pressing Power button, then plug usb (there is no disk drive mode because you're not on the android system)
After that type the commands for unlocker_bin

Congrats! Yes, you still have S-ON and that doesn't need to change. The unlocked HBOOT is sufficient.

Installing CWM Recovery is the first step, but make sure you back up your current system ROM in Recovery before flashing a custom ROM. It is notoriously difficult to flash a system ROM after flashing a custom ROM. See this index for a list of custom ROMs, some built on HTC Sense with tweeks and some non-HTC (ie, Cyanogenmod): [INDEX] roms/recovery/guides/kernel/root/... As always, hit thanks for the guys that help you.

Also, be sure to disable FOTA updates because the latest update reverts the HBOOT to an unlockable (and un-downgradable) one that unroots your phone. So whatever happens, do not accept a ROM upgrade from HTC until the issue gets resolved.

Have fun!

Without your help, I would have still been sat here swearing at my phone :D

now that the bootloader is unlocked is this permanent, meaning once I have partitioned sd card and backed rom up trying a new rom and if need to uninstall will the unlock and CWM remain in place

I know its not a top spec phone I have, but its a starting point for someone new to Android, I may get a better phone later question is HTC or Samsung?

Thanks to you both, my Thanks finger has been busy ;)

Unfortunately it's not as permanent as S-OFF, but as long as you don't accept the OTA update mentioned above you should be ok. Avoid it at all costs. Notice the new stickied thread to deal with it.

If you flash another older factory ROM then you may lose root but not your unlooked bootloader. So you'd just run steps 4 and 5 over. If you back up your current ROM, wherever you back it up you still have root.

Well, you choose to learn Android on about the hardest phone to root! So did I :)

Thanks for all the info I am going to print this off so I have a hard copy. Great forum and very Helpful but can be overwhelming at times, just had this phone for 2 days. Before you helped me I did ask someone in a shop about rooting his reply was why its not worth it (maybe just the phone model) and when rooted it would cause a lot of problems? from what I have read on here there are a lot of happy people with thanks to people like yourself :D
